The Gynecologic Oncology Department offers dedicated, expert care for women diagnosed with cancers of the reproductive system. Our board-certified Gynecologic Oncologists are uniquely trained to diagnose, perform the most complex cancer surgeries (including Cytoreduction and Robotic Surgery), and administer specialized chemotherapy and targeted therapies. We integrate a holistic approach, prioritizing optimal outcomes, fertility preservation, and quality of life for women facing Ovarian, Uterine, Cervical, Vaginal, and Vulvar Cancers.
A Gynecologic Oncologist is a physician who has completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology followed by three to four years of rigorous, specialized training focused exclusively on cancers of the female reproductive system. This specialized training is crucial, as studies confirm that women treated by a GYN Oncologist are more likely to achieve better survival and clinical outcomes.
Integrated Management: Our specialists oversee all aspects of your care, from diagnosis and surgical staging to the administration of chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and coordination of radiation therapy. This comprehensive approach reduces the risks associated with fragmented care.
Complex Primary Surgery: We perform intricate procedures necessary to remove advanced gynecologic cancers, most notably optimal debulking (cytoreduction) for ovarian exterative procedures for cervical cancer, radical procedures for vulval and vaginal cancers, which is critical for extending survival.
Holistic Women's Health: We focus on the unique ways cancer and its treatment affect fertility, hormonal health, sexuality, and long-term well-being, providing support and strategies for managing these critical aspects of recovery.
We utilize the latest surgical and systemic protocols recognized by NCCN and ESGO to deliver the most precise and effective treatment available.
A complex surgical procedure, essential for cancers like Ovarian Cancer that have spread to the abdomen (peritoneum). The goal is to remove all visible tumor masses, striving to leave behind no visible cancer (optimal debulking), which is directly linked to improved survival.
Removing Maximum Cancer: This is a major operation focused on removing as much cancer as possible—often necessary for ovarian cancer. Removing the vast majority of the tumor sets the stage for chemotherapy to be most effective.
Utilizes Robotic-Assisted (e.g., Da Vinci system) or advanced laparoscopic approaches for procedures like hysterectomy or staging, especially for Endometrial and benign conditions of uterus cancers. This technology provides enhanced surgical precision and minimal post op pain, no surgical sites infections, no surgical site infections, no hernias, women get back to work earlier than open surgeries.
Precision Keyhole Surgery: We use tiny incisions and robotic assistance for smaller, less aggressive tumors. This means less pain, less scarring, and a much faster hospital discharge compared to traditional open surgery.
A specialized technique for select ovarian cancer patients where high-concentration chemotherapy drugs (e.g., Platinum-based agents) are delivered directly into the abdominal cavity rather than through a with pressure- it is called PIPAC- pressurised intraperitoneal aerosol chemotherapy , and without pressure , during cytoreductive surgeries , chemotherapy is instilled inside the abdominal cavity.
Direct Attack Chemo: For cancers spread within the belly (like ovarian), we deliver the chemotherapy directly into the abdominal space. This targets the cancer cells more intensely with higher doses while limiting severe side effects on the rest of the body.
Includes surgical options (e.g., removing one ovary, or Trachelectomy for cervical cancer) and medical management (e.g., hormone therapy for early endometrial cancer) to protect a woman's ability to conceive after treatment.
Protecting Future Family: If you wish to have children, we explore every option—including specialized surgery or non-surgical therapy—to remove the cancer while preserving your reproductive organs and maintaining your chance of becoming pregnant later.
We offer dedicated Genetic Counseling for women with a strong family history or known genetic mutations (BRCA, Lynch Syndrome). We perform risk-reducing (prophylactic) surgeries (such as removal of the ovaries and fallopian tubes) to dramatically lower the risk of future cancer development.
Our expertise includes diagnosing and managing premalignant conditions (e.g., cervical dysplasia), focusing on preventative measures and early intervention to halt progression to invasive cancer.
Our surgeons are experts in the most complex operations, including the use of HIPEC (Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy),NIPEC, PIPAC combined with cytoreductive surgery for select advanced peritoneal malignancies.
We actively participate in cutting-edge clinical trials, offering eligible patients access to the latest generation of Immunotherapy and Targeted Therapy drugs that specifically target the molecular drivers of gynecologic cancers.
We work collaboratively with specialized Radiation Oncologists, Palliative Care specialists, and psychooncology geneticist, medical oncologists to ensure seamless integration of care, address psychosocial needs, and support you from diagnosis through follow-up.
